Mackerel is classified as an oily fish, and is closely related to tuna, as a result it is a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, protein and vitamin D.
The name mackerel is derived from the striped markings running down the flanks.
It has a strong signature taste, and tastes fantastic pan fried (skin side down) with a little rapeseed oil.
Mackerel are migratory and usually arrive in UK waters during the spring and early summer.
Best consumed fresh, our mackerel is sourced from Scotland, Devon and Cornwall, and is freshly caught on day boats.
